The Only way to go on a camera, is getting the best. Try Ebay or amazon, get a used one and replace the battery, It's like gettin a new one! :-) That's what I did!
Not quite sure what price range you are looking at but if you can afford it I highly recommend an entry level Digital SLR. (The larger ones you can change the lens on). A great website that I have gone to over and over is http://www.digital-slr-guide.com/ Unless you are going to do a lot of research, stick with Nikon or Canon brand. Best places to research & shop what you are looking for is http://www.adorama.com/ the prices are many times better than if you buy a used one on KSL or Craigslist. Be careful buying on ebay (lot of camera scams)
